How Brighton City Guide collects, uses and protects the information you share through this website.
What our forms collect
Depending on which form you use, we ask for:
- Newsletter sign-up — first name, email, an optional mobile number, your interests, and preferred language.
- Business sign-up — contact name, business name, email, an optional phone number, the business address, whether you own or rent, your business category, and your interests.
- Grant application — contact name, business name, email, phone, the property address, the program you’re applying to, a project description and budget, and your planned start month.
- Contact form — your name, email, an optional phone number, and your message.
- List your space — contact name, email, an optional phone number, the property address, sale or lease, size, an optional listing link, and notes.
- Downtown survey — your answers, and only if you choose to give them: your name, business, email and phone. Answers are saved in a spreadsheet we review.
- Listing correction — the listing, what’s wrong, and optionally your name and contact details. Saved in a spreadsheet we review.
- Partner opt-in — your business, the partners you want, what you can offer, and how to reach you. Saved in a spreadsheet we review to make introductions.
Why we collect it
We use this information to send Brighton City Guide updates (events, deals, grants and downtown news), to answer your questions and to make introductions you ask for. We don’t use it for anything else.
Where it goes
Newsletter subscriptions (your email, name if given, and your choices) and Local Rewards memberships (your email, points and visits) are kept in our database. Newsletters and sign-in codes are sent through our email providers (HighLevel and Resend). Other form submissions are emailed to us and kept in our customer-relationship system (HighLevel). We don’t sell your information, and we share it only when you ask us to, for example for an introduction to a partner business.
Text messages
We only send text messages to people who check the text-message box on a form — it’s unchecked unless you check it. Reply STOP at any time to opt out.
Analytics and outside services
We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to see which pages people use and where the site is confusing. They set cookies and record things like pages visited, clicks and scrolling; they don’t get your name or what you type into forms. Your browser’s privacy settings or a blocker can turn them off. The interactive maps load map tiles from OpenStreetMap, and address lookups — like checking whether an address is inside the district — are sent to the U.S. Census Bureau’s geocoding service. Opening a directory listing loads that business’s current details from Google Maps, and “Check price” on a gas station asks Google Maps for that station’s prices. “Use my location” uses your location only in your browser; it isn’t sent to us.
Who runs this site
Brighton City Guide is an independent project by Willy Strohmeier, a Brighton business owner who also serves on the DDA Board. It is not a website of the City of Brighton, the DDA or BURA, and what you send here goes to the guide, not to any of them.
